Life in the Middle Ages

In large part due to Arthurian mythology, the words “Medieval England” might conjour up images of castles, knights and court ladies in fine gowns.

Stone castles with tall turrets and dangerous moats did exist.

But the reality of life in the Middle Ages was not nearly so romantic as it is often portrayed in literature and films.

As seems to have been the case throughout history, life was better if you were rich.  But in the Middle Ages, wealth depended largely on one’s status at birth.  The nobility fared much better than the peasantry.  But life was much harder for everyone than our modern tales suggest.
